The Impact of the Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic was challenging for everyone, especially families. The University of Oregon and Loma Linda University started the CRISP Project to better understand the long-term impacts of pandemic stressors and school closures on children and families.

The CRISP research team is contacting families who participated in one of our prior research studies to help us with this new project!

What will be asked of participants and what is the time commitment?

  • Parents will complete 6 surveys over the next three years. If your child that participated in our previous studies is aged 11 or older, they will also be asked to complete a short survey at each time point.

1. Parent surveys will usually take about an hour to complete

2. Youth surveys will usually take about 30 minutes to complete

  • If you previously participated in the PRO-Parenting Project or the Kid Brain Network study, or your child has an IEP or 504 plan, you will also be asked to complete an interview one time at the beginning of the study. The interview will take about 45 minutes to complete.

  • Over the next three years, parents can earn up to $650 and youth can earn up to $150.

  • You will be asked to provide contact information for your child’s teacher(s) so that we may ask them to share their observations of your child in the classroom. Teachers will be paid for their time as well.

  • All study activities will be completed remotely.

A note about the first survey for parents: Please note that the surveys we ask you to complete in Spring 2023 will be longer than those offered later in the study. This is because we need time to make sure we are measuring behaviors the same way across all our families. Each of the original studies measured similar child and parent behaviors, but used different tools to do so. In this first survey we will ask you about these behaviors the way we have asked you in the past (using an old tool) AND the way we want to ask you going forward (using the same new tool for everyone). The good news is that once we get this step out of the way, we won’t have to ask you in the “old way” again! So even though the later parent surveys should take 1 hour to complete, this first one will take a little more time.
